CONQUER YOUR DEMON. BREAK YOUR BARRICADE. LET'S SURVIVE.
Although the lie has been seen through
I still cling to those affectionate words
R E S E T CALL ME:
Atsuro Kihara
ALTERNATIVELY:
Famous on the Internet by his handle, ATLOW- other than that? Ahoro, Atsuwrong, Otakuro, Nerdlinger... you know what? Just ask Yuzu. Hatsuro's the best nickname, though.
I HAVE LIVED:
Seventeen, November 1st.
DEEP DOWN, I AM:
Male
...MY PREFERENCE?
Technosexual Confused as hell, but all signs point to an exceedingly uninterested bisexual.
I WORK AS:
Atsuro manages to make money by working with computers and electronics in general, though it's not an amazing amount- he's also a second-year at Gekkoukan. YOU'LL SEE ME WITH:
Persona User, once he gets his watch- though pretty much everybody can bully the guy around...
Inside of the darkness of the heart
In the seemingly imitative town
R E B E L L I O N HEIGHT:
5'7"
WEIGHT:
150 lbs
HAIR:
Dark brown- depending on the setting, Atsuro's hair can look like anything from dusty to pitch black. It's fairly unkempt and ignored, though considering how much Atsuro wears his hat, he really never bothers fixing it up anyway.
EYES:
Almost identical to his hair color. Atsuro's got a sort of spark in his brown eyes that's infectiously optimistic- unfortunately, this pervasive aura seems to be given off even when Atsuro would much rather go bury his face in a computer manual and forget the world.
GENERAL STYLE:
Atsuro's fairly tame with clothing- he prefers clothes that aren't too flashy, but still give him a unique spark in a crowd- anything but a monochrome outfit of black and white. Outside of the school uniform, he'll usually wear the same clothes- Atsuro's most well-known for his blue hoodie and black pants, though the young man values comfort over professionalism anyday. The school uniform bothers him enough, why try to dress up all the time?
EXTRAS:
Other than his white hat emblazoned with a power symbol, Atsuro's completely decked out in technology- he has a large orange bag that he keeps a powerful laptop in, and he has several devices on a keyring- MP3 players, phones... he's also carrying his COMP around as a keepsake. If you can think of something, Atsuro's probably got it- he even rewired his wristwatch to act like a miniature computer, complete with a USB cord for him to transfer data.
The weight that you've shouldered

the C O N T R A C T POSITIVES:
- Loyal - Optimistic - Composed - Intelligent - Outgoing
NEGATIVES:
- Overly trusting - Dependent - Lazy - Idealistic - Submissive
OVERALL PERSONALITY:
Atsuro Kihara is, perhaps, one of the strangest blends of traits to ever be found in a human being. Social and yet reclusive, diligent and yet an absolute sloth, Atsuro personally sees himself as a fairly average teenager- a sidekick, a wingman, a back-up... and he's perfectly content with this, as the young man loathes the spotlight. For all of his apparent charm and ability to befriend almost anyone, Atsuro's a sharp study in contrasts.
While a fairly kind and polite guy, Atsuro prefers the veil of the Internet to any face-to-face conversation, and it shows, as he often gets nervous and fidgety around strangers until he's warmed up to them- hell, he still gets scared around Yuzu sometimes. Atsuro's extremely good about hiding any sort of anxiety or fear, however, especially if he knows showing fear means that others will be terrified. Atsuro could care less about himself- he doesn't think he's anything special- but he values others far more than he values his own well-being. Atsuro has convictions, values, and beliefs, but they all rank as second-best compared to those of his friends. He's an amazing friend, but horrible at satisfying himself.
This debilitating modesty has carried over to his schoolwork, and the only place Atsuro truly considers himself to be free is on the Internet- and considering Naoya's overwhelming reputation and programming prowess, Atsuro's developing a major inferiority complex there, too. Really, this single aspect of Atsuro's personality- his courtesy to others- is wrecking a few aspects of his life. Before, the young man did his best on tests and marveled his instructors with his perfect grades, but now Atsuro meticulously makes sure to just get slightly below Arashi's test scores. After all, one of the things any good friend should do is make his pal feel better, right?
Despite this overwhelming urge to keep another person's ego boosted while his own stagnates and slowly rots, Atsuro still refuses to completely conform to his friends. His reclusive tendencies will never leave him, and the passion and knowledge of technology instilled in him as a child will never be smothered or repressed, 'geeky' or not. He'll gladly change a few habits to conform, but he's not going to change who he is, no matter how much he hides his own thoughts and feelings from everybody but his closest companions.
Atsuro could also be seen as overwhelmingly desensitized- seeing everything from a rather analytical point of view, the young man hardly recoiled at the idea of demons ruling the world- after all, if harnessed by mankind, they could be beneficial to technology! Risks and repercussions have no place in his mind, as he doesn't think anything will go wrong. The Lockdown's taught him to at least expect awful things, but in reality, Atsuro's taught himself to never doubt his own instincts... though that doesn't mean he'll always follow through on them, especially if his friends think otherwise.
Atsuro's extremely intellectual and really quite adept, but his years of comfortably living in somebody else's shadow have taken their toll on him- he's fine with who he is. He's happy how life has gone, but he's always going to give the credit to somebody else before he takes it for himself.
He's an inherent optimist, and Atsuro is a firm believer in the idea that humans are naturally good- the very concept that a human being could be genuinely evil is one he likes to ignore entirely, and Atsuro would rather blame the situation than blame the beings behind it. Dozens of people fighting and killing for rations? Obviously, the Lockdown's to be blamed, not them- the only people Atsuro will genuinely despise are the people that anybody would. Nobody's perfect according to Atsuro... but nobody's completely evil, either.
The only time Atsuro shows a primal bravery and a stubborn resolve is when his allies are threatened- when they refuse to make a move. An agitated Atsuro is an exceedingly rare sight, but it's not a pretty one to behold at all... after all, all of those repressed feelings have to show up eventually. Atsuro has convictions, has a powerful sense of justice, and a firm moral center.
He'll be your best friend until the end- just don't piss him off.
CHARACTER TIME PERIOD:
Shortly after the Gin ending in Devil Survivor, with everybody alive and intact. As far as Atsuro's concerned, life is splendid- though he keeps having awful, recurring nightmares of a land of ruin and destruction, one he played a part in creating. Little does he know these vague glimpses of death and Armageddon are actually insights into another dimension- one where Arashi sided with Naoya instead.
HISTORY:
Atsuro Kihara grew up as a fairly typical child- given, his parents were both high-ranking members of society who emphasized rigidity and structure in life, creating a fairly suffocating atmosphere for the young boy. Atsuro learned to apply himself early on- to work his best, to be proud of what he did, and to make himself stand out. This worked well- the young boy effortlessly got through his elementary and middle school years, though, finding he couldn't communicate on the same level as his peers, Atsuro turned to another network of people, people that could understand just what he was talking about when he brought up the newest builds of intelligent machinery and self-programming robotics.
That was where Atsuro thrived. Spurning the outside world for one where he could relish both his interests and the fact that he wasn't alone in them, he quickly became well-known for his expertise. After all, nobody asked what age he was- nobody judged him based on a chronological period of time. There was no need to, as his status was gauged solely by his knowledge.
Atsuro did manage to befriend Keisuke Takagi in middle school, though Atsuro, being fairly clueless to the machinations of the social circles of young children, had no idea that Keisuke, in the process of stopping one classmate from being bullied, was resulted to bullying himself, or he would have acted- instead, Atsuro remained fairly average, excelling academically but remaining in the mediocre center of the social pyramid. And he was fine that way.
Even in high school, when Atsuro met Yuzu and Arashi and quickly befriended them to create a trio of sorts, Atsuro remained his offbeat self. He'd gladly talk about baseball, and casually interlace it with quantum mechanics as if this was all on the same plane of thought, something he never really considered. Atsuro was kind and polite, but he rarely knew anybody as more than a friendly passerby, and when his parents packed up and moved to America to get new jobs, leaving Atsuro to take care of himself, this sense of isolation and simultaneous self-sufficiency deepened.
Suddenly, he had no parents to impress, no imposing figures to dictate just what he could do- and as Atsuro became more adventurous, he also became much more passive, brushing his own talent and intelligence under the rug to fit in a little more- Atsuro started meeting up with the people he'd met online and made lasting friendships, and suddenly schoolwork really didn't seem that important. If he wasn't chatting or writing new programs he was socializing, and Atsuro had (falsely) figured that the only way to really get new friends was to cater to them before he catered to himself.
Then the Lockdown happened. Summer vacation was just starting, only for Atsuro to receive a text from Naoya and meet up with Arashi and Yuzu. What would Naoya of all people want them for...? They were given modified COMPs- Atsuro assumed maybe Naoya just homebrewed them- but the minute Atsuro hacked one of them and activated a strange program called the "Devil Summoning Program", the Apocalypse truly began.
The Laplace Mail arrived, and with it, predictions of calamity and death, of riots and blackouts- the trio managed to fight the demons that emerged out of their COMPs and force them to submit to their will, but when a terrifying Wendigo confronted them at Aoyama, their fates appeared to be sealed- until another COMP-user, a young member of the Shomonkai who would later turn out to be Amane- beat the beast and sealed the graveyard, offering the three a place to rest- for the night, at least.
What they woke up to was hell. Atsuro took the demon apocalypse pretty well- he acted like it, at least- but he was more concerned that Yuzu was virtually insane a few hours into the ordeal, so Atsuro went out of his way to lighten up the atmosphere, despite the terrifying reality that Tokyo was collapsing and society itself was ripping in half. There was no mercy, no sense of camaraderie or mutual interests. Every man was to fight for himself or be devoured by a demon... their small group of three was an exception, and the minute they learned that they were going to be murdered, there was a cold realization at just how alone they were.
Atsuro saw Keisuke- for the briefest of moments- but the group's Death Clocks repelled him immediately, leaving the teenager both bitter and enraged. They would fight fate- fight destiny itself. If Naoya trusted them with the Devil Summoning Program, surely they were special, right? Surely they were to be the ones who would stop the Lockdown and defeat the demons... but it turned out that COMPs were as commonplace as cell phones. Within a few days, something so rare as a demon-summoning COMP was nothing special at all. The only thing the group had going for them- the one very important thing- was the Laplace Mail.
With it, they not only knew where to be, but what would happen- and, in a way, how to stop it. As far as Atsuro's concerned, not only did the group kill the Wendigo that threatened them, they saved Haru from suicide, Midori from an angry mob, Keisuke from Kaido, Gin from the Shomonkai, and Mari from the vampire Kudlak. The Shomonkai, the angels... Atsuro wasn't fond of them by any means, but he tolerated them. There was no such thing as true evil, right? Even Naoya was just misguided, even Keisuke was just a bit aggravated when he went on a murdering spree... Atsuro remained merciful and forgiving, no matter how dire the situation.
When he reprogrammed the Devil Summoning Program to erase all of the demons with Haru's help, he assumed everything was over- that the demons were a thing of a past, though he was looking forward to potentially harnessing their energy for the benefit of mankind. Everything would go back to normal, right? No more fighting. No more bloodshed. No more murder.
Yeah right.

let's S U R V I V E ORIENTATION:
Might
WEAPON OF CHOICE:
Atsuro's not exactly much of a weapon person- so instead he's modified his watch to shoot blasts of concentrated energy capable of 'harming' a Persona, and through that, their wielder. With Ananta's power backing him, however, he can throw a good punch.
BATTLE STATS:
FP: 50 SP: 20
ARCANA:

PERSONA:

SUMMONING:

HIGH AFFINITY:
Resists Slash, Strike, and Pierce
LOW AFFINITY:
Electricity, Light, and Dark
SKILLS:
Double Fangs, Deft Stroke, Kill Rush, Dia
No matter what tough times you're in
Embrace the smiles of your trusting friends
peaceful D A Y S FAMILY:
Atsuro's an only child- his parents are both high-ranking programmers who work over in California, so he's used to being fairly formal and long-distance with them. There's a few e-mails and a phone call every week, but other than that, there's no indication Atsuro really has a family at all.
ACQUAINTANCES/FRIENDS:
Considers Arashi, Keisuke, and Yuzu to be his closest friends, sees Mari Mochizuki as a role model, and is also acquainted with Midori, Haru, Gin, Kaido, Izuna, Amane, and Black Frost due to the Lockdown.
RIVALS/ENEMIES:
He's not very fond of the Shomonkai in general, or the angels, though 'hate' isn't really in Atsuro's dictionary. That, and he doesn't enjoy the idea of burning in hell forever for voicing his opinion on the heavenly hierarchy.
ROMANTIC INTEREST:
...You're hilarious.
OTHER:
Atsuro's parents never approved of pets or the like, so he's used to being fairly alone. Nothing new to him. He's allergic to cats, anyway.
