I can't escape this hell So many times I've tried But I'm still caged inside Somebody get me through this nightmare I can't control myself So what if you can see The darkest side of me No one will ever change this animal I have become
Although the lie has been seen through
I still cling to those affectionate words
R E S E T CALL ME:
Tadashi Nikaido
ALTERNATIVELY:
Kaido, a title he inherited from his older brother.
I HAVE LIVED:
Nineteen, 8/13 (♌)
DEEP DOWN, I AM:
Male. The hell are ya, blind?!
...MY PREFERENCE?
Bifurious- you're getting your ass kicked no matter what.
I WORK AS:
Officially unemployed, but works for Naoya to get by. YOU'LL SEE ME WITH:
Very closely affiliated with KAFIR, but considers himself an individual Persona User. Already well-known around the back alleys of Iwatodai thanks to his charisma and brute strength.
Inside of the darkness of the heart
In the seemingly imitative town
R E B E L L I O N HEIGHT:
6'0"
WEIGHT:
185 lbs
HAIR:
Kaido's hair is a dark brown, though it can appear red in some light sources. It's typically a spiked mess- Kaido just lazily slicks it back every day to deal with it.
EYES:
Identical to his hair color. Yay, matching!
GENERAL STYLE:
Kaido's rarely seen in anything outside of his usual black jacket and black slacks, both with bold blue stripes running down the sides. If he is outside of his well-known outfit, he'll usually wear simple, plain clothes- he's not one to be flashy. He's not too concerned about what he wears as long as he can still beat the hell out of people.
EXTRAS:
Nothing of note- Kaido's littered with scars and gashes from fighting, especially during the Lockdown, but none of them are very noticeable from a distance.
The weight that you've shouldered
Share it with me, and don't let go of my hand
the C O N T R A C T POSITIVES:

OVERALL PERSONALITY:
Tadashi Nikaido's a strange guy, and for one particular reason- his personality's going to drastically change for every person you ask about him. By putting up a stoic, aloof front, he attempts to drive off most who talk to him- especially with his questionable mental state after the Lockdown, as the last thing he really cares about is having a social life or a stable social circle. He gives off a vastly different aura depending on who he's communicating with- a close friend, or basically anybody else- but since he can count his close friends on one hand, this side of his personality's never seen.
Extremely stubborn, Kaido's the kind of guy who never backs down once he's made up his mind about something, which usually doesn't end well- this resolve and dedication to one's own decisions could be seen as an impressive show of self-confidence, but in Kaido's case, it's usually bullheadedness speaking and not a conscious judgment. He acts first and thinks about the consequences later- after recent events, inaction has become a taboo to Kaido, and he'd much rather suffer consequences for doing something than suffer consequences for doing nothing.
This 'act first, think later' mentality carries over to many other parts of Kaido's personality. He does well controlling groups, and he's a surprisingly good and experienced leader, but his appeal seems to be more about his hotheaded take charge attitude than any sort of calm, rational planning. Kaido can scheme and plot just as well as any other... he'd just much rather get straight to the point.
One noticeable break in Kaido's typical tough guy attitude is that he has a severe protection complex- despite being merciless in battle and rather cruel during the Lockdown, he feels compelled to protect people- or, at least, those who are innocent. Anyone involving themselves in a battle that Kaido's fighting is fair game, no matter who they are. After what happened to Mari, he can't really help this habit- especially if the person in question reminds him of her.
However, if somebody actually manages to befriend Kaido, he can turn out to be quite a laid-back kind of guy. He's loyal to the end to the few people that he can consider trustworthy, and he's not one to forget a promise or not return a favor. There's a sort of twisted chivalry in his behavior- one warped after the Lockdown. After the things he's seen, he knows any concept of heroism and chivalry is really dead.
Kaido's outlook on life is rather cynical, with the young man adopting a Darwinian philosophy. Those who are strong'll live and fight their way to the top... and the weak'll die. This is slightly hypocritical, considering what happened to Mari- but anybody who tries to point that out to Kaido'll probably end up dead and in a few pieces somewhere. As impulsive and vicious as he is, Kaido does have a tamer side- it's just nearly impossible to access. The only person who even got to catch a glimpse of it is now dead, as far as Kaido's concerned.
The leader of the Shibuya Daemons is either a powerful ally... or a deadly foe. There's no middle ground- Kaido's quick to make judgments on first impressions, and once he's got an image in his mind of somebody it's nigh-impossible to change his thoughts. Kaido's one to trust his gut, after all- whether this pays off in the end or kills him is to be seen.
Just make sure you're not obsessed with justice, and you're not a vampire, and you should at least be safe for a little while.
CHARACTER TIME PERIOD:
End of Day 7, Naoya Route in Devil Survivor. Neither Kaido nor Mari were given the bag to fight Kudlak with the white amnion, so Mari was killed by Kudlak and Kaido subsequently murdered Keisuke.
HISTORY:
Tadashi's family, as far as he can remember, consisted of only two people- him, and his brother. There was no mention of parents- no tragic death, no cruel abandonment at an orphanage or conspiracy theories about their disappearance- they just weren't there, and he grew used to the idea pretty quickly. If there was any support from some unknown relative, Tadashi knew nothing of it- by the time things in the world really became clear to him, Takeshi had a steady income (An income that was less than lawfully earned, he'd find out) and they simply never spoke again of the parents who were never there.
Considering they only had each other, two brothers had a decent relationship- there was rivalry and competition, of course, but with a significant age gap between the two, they never seemed to be competing for the same thing. Takeshi grew more distant and isolated by the years- toughened thugs with telltale cuts and gashes from knives littering their bodies stopped by more often, mumbling under their breath about things Tadashi didn't really care about. He was focusing on schoolwork, on a perfectly normal childhood- Takeshi was changing, but Tadashi knew his brother's business wasn't his own. They'd always established that they'd keep to themselves- that they'd stay out of each other's lives unless one needed the other- and Tadashi planned on living up to that. They weren't the friendliest or the closest set of siblings, but they still got by with little incident.
...And then Mari Mochizuki changed everything. Mari had been a childhood friend for both of the brothers, one of the few people that could be called an acquaintance in their otherwise rather isolated lives. She'd been the one constant factor around, and Tadashi'd always been fond of her- but Mari saw him as a little brother. A sort of sibling... nothing more. He tried to dismiss his feelings as a stupid childhood crush- what the hell was he thinking, going after a woman four years older than him anyway, huh? ...But they never changed. He could try to get over this stupid childhood crush, but no matter what Mari thought of Tadashi, he knew one thing for certain. He loved her.
Takeshi started showing up home later and later with every passing day, littered with wounds that were obviously from fights. He'd have a bottle of sake in his hand, a lighter in another, clenching a cigarette between his teeth. He wasn't the same older brother, but Tadashi had other things on his mind- doing his best. At anything, at everything... if only to catch Mari's eye, to see him as something more than an adoptive little brother. He had to impress her if he wanted any chance.
Some days, Takeshi didn't come home at all. Tadashi'd continue life as usual, but when he saw Takeshi strolling by one day, oddly cleaned up and refined-looking considering his recent endeavors with his gang... with his arm comfortably wrapped around Mari's waist. Tadashi was enraged- he didn't care how childish his jealousy was, or how Takeshi had probably been after Mari longer than he had- he didn't care. Their lives hadn't clashed before, but now, Takeshi had taken one fatal step into his younger brother's life. His jealousy was petty, his rage unfounded... but he decided to act on instinct and confront Takeshi about it.
Takeshi showed up early that night, though the smug smirk on his face told Tadashi everything he needed to know. Everything.
"...You angry at me, lil' bro?"
"You're lyin' to her. If she knew what the hell you really did all the time, she wouldn't get within five damn feet of you...!"
"What, jealous? I'm gettin' laughs out of it, Tadashi. You never had a chance with her. Why not take the opportunity myself, eh?"
"...I wouldn't treat her like some damn trophy."
"Sure ya would, Tadashi..." he said, spitting out his younger brother's name as if it was the name of some irritating insect, before leaning down until they were at equal height and he could look him right in the face.
"And you're gonna end up just like me. Only you're not gonna be as strong. You're never gonna beat me at anything, lil' bro. Give up, move on. Other fish in the sea, eh? Maybe I just wanted to see what would happen."
"...You started datin' her just to piss me off, and you're lying to her about what you really do, killin' people all the time for their money and gang fights?! I'm gonna kill you for that, you know!"
Tadashi made the first move and got the first hit in, but Takeshi got the last. There was no chance- Tadashi was fiercely powerful, but he didn't have experience, and his brother still had more raw strength- and a lot of fighting under his belt. The younger Nikaido was left to deal with several broken ribs, and the older Nikaido triumphantly walked out the door.
"You're never gonna win, Tadashi. Learn your place and give up."
The next morning he was dead, found with his throat torn out. There was no blood- not a single drop. Nothing left in his body, nothing on the street. Takeshi Nikaido was declared to be the first victim of the unknown serial killer who committed the "Bloodless Murders", as they came to be known around Tokyo. Tadashi didn't attend the funeral- he showed up a few hours later at the graveyard to offer his brother a few colorfully choice words, however.
He wasn't sure how to approach Mari- how to tell her what kind of disgusting scum Takeshi was, how disgusting it was that he left her, and how he could do a better job... but the Takeshi Mari knew was a kind man, nothing like the face Tadashi had seen that night when everything finally became clear. It stung, but he made a silent promise that day. He wouldn't end up like his older brother- he'd prove him wrong. He'd be better. He'd be stronger, a better leader, and, most importantly... he'd keep Mari safe, no matter what. He hated Takeshi- he hated what he did- but it didn't change how he felt about Mari.
Tadashi Nikaido soon became Kaido, the leader of the Shibuya Daemons, who, under this new leadership, were forced away from what Takeshi had used the gang for- extortion and murder, turning the gang into vigilantes. They were still a gang, of course- but Kaido sure as hell wasn't going to end up like his brother. He was going to be better than Takeshi ever had... and he was going to get his revenge on whatever bastard stole the pleasure of killing Takeshi from him.
...Then the Tokyo Lockdown happened. It was rather uneventful at first- cell phone signals didn't work, though Kaido still had contacts with all of the Daemons, and kept an eye on the more easily-enraged members of the Daemons who attempted to get the SDF to move- though they were easily intimidated into submission once their leader showed up. Kaido was approached by a young man named Arashi Kunogi and his friends, and asked if he could help them find the kid's cousin- a certain 'Naoya Kunogi', apparently a programmer in Aoyama- and Kaido accepted. After all, he was probably worried that his cousin was outside the Yamanote Circle, or something like that- it was an understandable concern. Little did he realize just how important this 'Naoya' guy really was.
By the second day, Kaido had tracked down Mari and started talking to her, only for Mari to insist that she was going to get revenge on whatever killed Takeshi- now that demons invaded Tokyo and mythical beings were real, both of them had been convinced that whatever killed Takeshi was obviously not human... but Kaido was outraged. How damn stupid could she be? How could she try and throw away her life for that trash? Dammit, he wanted to tell her what his brother was really like...! There was a heated argument- Kaido insisting Mari butt out of the revenge business entirely, and Mari insisting that she at least try to avenge Takeshi- after all, couldn't that monster kill him, too?
Kaido ended up yelling, enraged that Mari would so calmly give everything away to track down a dangerous monster that killed a person who Kaido was sure wasn't worth avenging. Kaido wanted to kill the monster that killed Takeshi, sure... but not to avenge him. He only wanted to kill the creature because it deprived him of the opportunity to kill Takeshi himself. Mari left, and Kaido swore at his failure to convince her- dammit, he didn't mean to call her an idiot... he just wanted to keep her safe. If he wanted to be better than his older brother... he couldn't let that damn monster kill her, too.
Kaido had gained access to a COMP fairly early on, and, by teaming up with a businessman, Yasuyuki Honda, he quickly earned macca and started buying stronger demons from the auctioning service that had suddenly emerged. It was like a game to Kaido- killing demons with his own demons seemed like some sort of poetic justice. With the COMP, he could crush legendary creatures with his bare fists- and while Honda was always several steps behind, Kaido kept going forward, crushing everything in his way. He was getting more powerful- his demons could crush everything before them- and that power? ...He liked it.
He grew more confident by the minute, and when he hunted down a group of demons and was confronted by Arashi, he offered them a challenge- a demon-killing contest. Kaido was sure he'd win- so sure that he put his COMP, his macca, and all of his demons on the line. The competition didn't go quite the way Kaido hoped- certainly, he crushed every demon he hit in one shot, while Honda lagged behind... but they were outnumbered two-to-one. He was going to lose. And if he lost, he lost all this power- all this new strength- all of it. He wouldn't protect Mari and defeat whatever killed Takeshi... he was going to fail.
He couldn't beat Takeshi, and now he couldn't beat those damn brats?! How the hell was he going to get more powerful if couldn't beat some kids in a demon-killing competition...? He didn't give a damn about any competition anymore- he needed power. And then a great gust of wind roared through the park, the demon standing before him with a sort of twisted, arrogant authority, a cold look in its blue eyes.
"Thy bitter despair... thy heart's cries for power...! I perceive them! Khh khh khh... you need only call my name, and thy wish will come to fruition!" |
[/b] He didn't need a COMP. When the demon introduced himself as Pazuzu, Kaido was skeptical- he had no clue what the hell Pazuzu was, but seeing Honda dumbstruck and terrified at the demon's presence seemed like a good sign to Kaido. Pazuzu swore his allegiance to Kaido- to his wrath, to his anger, to his hatred- and, casually abandoning the idea of living up to his end of the bargain and giving Arashi and his group his COMP and macca, he mockingly sent them a farewell, let Pazuzu grab his shoulder, and left in a gust of wicked wind. Soon after, Kaido and Honda split up, breaking off their makeshift allegiance. Honda was concerned about escaping- about seeing his son, he told Kaido, who apparently was over at a hospital outside the Yamanote Circle and about to have an operation, but Kaido had other concerns. When several Daemons were massacred, and the sole survivor told him that a kid in glasses with a COMP was behind it... he began a bloodthirsty manhunt. Kaido's bloodlust to get revenge on what he saw as a direct challenge to his authority would seal Keisuke Takagi's fate- and Mari Mochizuki's as well. Kaido became much more violent and cruel in his search- and nobody was spared. Man or woman, adult or child, anybody who tried to confront Kaido with a COMP wasn't just beaten- they were killed. He'd take their macca, smash their COMPs, and keep moving. This wasn't just a Lockdown anymore- it was a war. He was going to hunt down his prey, and anybody who hindered him was just as likely to get killed as this glasses-wearing murderer who was running around Tokyo and massacring the members of his gang. He'd let that bastard know who was really in charge- after all. Mess with the bull... get the horns. He'd become obsessed with tracking down this mystery demon tamer... and later that day, one of the gang members stationed at Shibuya tracked Kaido down and told him something he had never wanted to hear- there was some monster. A vampire. A blood-sucking, cliche monster that had apparently been attacking several demon tamers... and draining them of all their blood. Kaido was extremely wary about the whole thing, but when the member mentioned in a panic that he saw Mari- though she apparently was acting oddly unlike herself- Kaido immediately called Pazuzu and demanded that he be warped back to Shibuya. He came back too late. Hunched over Mari's body was the black-cloaked beast known as Kudlak, looking over to Kaido with crazed eyes, smirking with blood wildly splattered on its sunken face. It was laughing. The damn thing was laughing, screeching about how Kresnik was dead, and finally, he was the victor. Kaido didn't give a shit about this 'Kresnik'- Mari was dead. Enraged, Kaido summoned Pazuzu- and within minutes, the vampire was destroyed forever, thrown to the winds in a thousand shattered pieces. It didn't change the fact Mari was dead, though- nothing would change that. He failed.[/b] Mari was dead, he failed, Takeshi was right, he'd never be better... something snapped within Kaido at that very moment. He told her not to do that, why was she so stupid...? He told her not to go after the creature... He didn't know who to hate. He couldn't hate Mari, his long-dead brother had long endured his hatred... what would hating himself accomplish? He wouldn't bring Mari back if he hated himself, if he killed himself- Pazuzu hissed at him instead. "Make thy rage thy strength. Spill the blood of the one you hunt, and let us bathe in it."[/b] It was that kid's fault. Kaido's mind warped into a spiral of hatred and grief, all of it centralizing on the fact that Mari was dead and she wasn't coming back, and it was all because of that damn kid. If that kid hadn't killed one of his men- and then another, and then another... he could have been there to keep Mari safe. He could have saved her. He could have told her how he'd really felt all these years. And it would never happen. Kaido finally tracked Keisuke Takagi down, still coated in the blood of the monster he had recently slain- slain too late. He finally confronted the bastard about what a hypocrite he was, spouting off about 'justice' and 'judgment' when all he was doing was killing everybody in sight using a demon. Keisuke tried to defend himself, saying that he was justified- but what was the 'justification'? Just kill anybody who pissed him off? Kaido scoffed- if the Daemons were thugs, this kid was no better. And as Pazuzu killed Yama with a dismissive Holy Dance and grabbed Keisuke by the throat, he wondered how the hell any higher power could let a bastard like this live... and then let Mari die. There was no God. Nothing that disgustingly cruel deserved to be called a god. "You're gonna die clutching those ideals."And Pazuzu tossed the smoldering, electrocuted body aside, deliberately in front of the four teenagers who approached and tried to intervene. Kaido didn't care if Keisuke was their 'friend', their 'ally', or whatever the hell they wanted to say. If Mari died... nobody else deserved any mercy. Kaido finally had the power to act, and as he brushed aside the teenagers and their attempts to fight him- after all, what were they going to do, kill him too? He had nothing left to live for. If they thought threatening his life was going to scare him, they were wrong. Instead, he left, just like that- he'd killed Takagi. His work was done. Kaido approached a certain Naoya Kunogi the next day, with only one goal on his mind- kill God. He didn't care how hard it would be, how arduous it would be, or if he would be burn in some kind of hell forever for his actions. Any god that let Mari die was a god that needed to be destroyed... they both wanted to get revenge on the divine. And so the alliance started- and continues even now. Even now that time's warped, Kaido continues to work with Naoya, if only to accomplish the goal that he's now sworn upon. However, Pazuzu's slowly starting to drive Kaido insane, pulling at every fiber he can for his own twisted amusement... and little does he know the drugs he's accepting from Naoya are not only making it worse, but are going to kill him sooner or later due to their side-effects.[/blockquote][/size] [/div] Destroy the distorted mirage Delete all of the world to do over again let's S U R V I V E ORIENTATION:
