In the seemingly imitative town
R E B E L L I O N HEIGHT:

HAIR:
It's a black mop, plain and simple!
EYES:
They're brown, but so dark you could mistake them as black.
Could they possibly be... Darker Than Black?!
GENERAL STYLE:
Satoru dresses simply-- slacks of jeans, polo or shirt, it doesn't really matter. As the Mask of Despair, he covers all in an outrageously long black overcoat that's coincidentally bullet-proof. Thick black boots and Kevlar gloves cover his hands and feet, and to conceal his identity is his trademark mask, made of [censored content-- as if the Mask of Despair would divulge the materials to make his mask!]. It's just as durable as the rest of his gear. The inside of his coat has been shown to be a light shade of green. Classy, Despair!
EXTRAS:
None, woah!
The weight that you've shouldered
Share it with me, and don't let go of my hand
the C O N T R A C T POSITIVES:
- Let's Positive Thinking Optimistic - Well-mannered - Calm (when not in "uniform") - Intuitive and crafty (who breaks into houses through the window with a fishing rod?) - Dependable - Ultimately one of the "good guys", though Despair would never admit it!
NEGATIVES:
- Just a biiiit of a daydreamer (who else could be Yuu Suzuki's arch-nemesis?) - Obsessive (he's an otaku at heart) - Rather reckless while playing Despair - Indulges a lot; bad with keeping money - Flight > Fight (i.e. somewhat cowardly)
OVERALL PERSONALITY:
Those who see Satoru see a soft-spoken, kind-hearted man (usually at work at Hagakure, if he's not in class). He's friendly, willing to lend an ear to the customers' problems, and overall strikes most as the amiable university student. For the most part, he is-- however, he's got a fierce otaku side to him, and obsesses over cartoons like Phoenix Featherman R, Power Rangers, and anything that promotes justice and order! Mega Action Dude is his favorite action show.
Besides his closet otaku-dom, there is a more blatant, more severe... oddity to Satoru, and that is his so-called alter ego, the heinous Mask of Despair. As the arch-nemesis of the famed Princess Powerful, it is his duty to cause chaos, scream "DESPAIR!", and laugh maniacally, whether Princess Powerful is around or not. He ignores words of reason from friend and foe alike as Despair, only acting with rational reason when there is tangible danger in the air.
Despite his crazy habits as Despair, Satoru is in fact not immersed in the world of heroes and villains like Yuu; rather, he adopted this identity because of her disposition. Yuu is actually a pretty influential figure in Satoru's life; he's moved multiple times just to follow her, and went into school for Psychology for the sole hope of being able to understand the deluded girl's mindset so that he can ease her out of it.
CHARACTER TIME PERIOD:
Current, oh my!
HISTORY:
Satoru's childhood was really nothing particularly special. His father had died before he turned three years old, so for the most part, he grew up with his mother. She worked as a reporter in Shibuya, but after the magazine she got most of her jobs from was closed down, she began moving all over Japan with Satoru to find various scoops for cash.
As a result, Satoru never had the time to be tied down to any one place for too long; he made friends fast but dropped them faster, and was more than content with playing by himself (he had the luxury of a few imaginary friends). The television became his best friend fast, and he ogled over the Saturday morning cartoons and live action shows. His imagination ran wild, and he was often chided in class for daydreaming.
Sound familiar? It should, because whoever else you may be thinking of is about to appear in a few seconds.
Eventually, Satoru grew out of his linear obsession with heroes and villains, though not completely-- he's never thrown away an action figure and has shelves full of manga, art books, and DVD box sets at home. In any case, by the time he was thirteen and having just passed out of Saturday morning cartoons and into standard shounen manga, he met a little girl playing by herself in a park, tossing action figures all over the place. At first, he was a bit appalled-- how could she abuse the sacred plastic figurines?! After calming his nerves and approaching the girl, he learned that her name was Yuu Suzuki, a girl even more obsessed with superheroes than he was.
Yeah, you know that part where I said Satoru didn't completely get over his love for heroes and villains? Yuu's fanatic nature took advantage of that; the two became fast, inseparable friends. Though they assumed roles on opposite sides of the spectrum (Princess Powerful versus Mask of Despair), they would always come home for dinner together, and Satoru became a protective older-brother figure for Yuu.
However, while Satoru was able to hang up his coat at the end of the day, Yuu's daydreams bled into the night, never ceasing for her to come to terms with reality. It gradually became more and more problematic for the girl's parents, and when she transformed into Nega-Yuu on her first therapist (read: attacked them), her parents became severely concerned for her mental health, and committed to finding her the finest in psychological help for their daughter. End result? They began to move across the country. With much begging and pleading (Mom, she's my first real friend! Ever!), Satoru convinced his mother to follow the Suzuki family. While they were at first welcoming of Satoru tagging along as a familiar face, "playtime" between the two kids continued and was seen by the various shrinks as a hindrance to Yuu's mental welfare. Satoru was essentially feeding her fantasies.
In no polite fashion, Yuu's parents told Satoru to buzz off.
But did you really think that one minor setback would stop the main villain?! Over the years, Yuu had become more than just a friend afflicted with chronic daydreams-- she was Satoru's closest friend, enough that he could call her his sister. Like hell he'd just let her slip away! In secret (with his mother), he continued to trail Yuu, devoting himself to studying all sorts of mental illnesses and the psychology of the mind. He would become a certified psychologist, throwing himself into research to attempt to cure Yuu himself. After all, it was obvious the therapists didn't know what the hell they were doing.
Of course, even over the years, the Mask of Despair would continue to plague Princess Powerful... Just so long as Yuu promised not to tell her parents about their daily duels.
