Personality:
Shinichi is a very withdrawn person who only shows kindness to animals that frequent the shrine. He has little patience for humans, thinking they make too much noise and make a mess of the shrine, and everything else for that matter. Due to the fact he works at a shrine, people often come to him for help or advice. He doesn’t give it.

Shinichi has a soft spot for children because they remind him of the family he wanted before his wife was taken from him.

History:
Shinichi had a pleasant life for a time. He married the woman he loved, they began a fairly successful bakery together, and they almost had a happy family. The two of them wanted children, but before they could start a family his wife Mei was killed in an unexplained accident while out with her friends one night. She’d gone outside for some fresh air around midnight, and was discovered dead soon after. It appeared as if some monster had ripped her apart, but the case was written off as a rabid dog attack. Shinichi didn’t think so. He’d heard rumors of terrible monsters that come in the middle of the night to prey on those who are alone.

Shinichi’s heart was smashed to pieces, and he desperately tried to find answers. He investigated his wife’s death as best he could, but the police were unwilling to help and ignored his claims that something supernatural might be involved. He eventually gave up and wasn’t able to bring his wife justice, but he knew that she wouldn’t have wanted him to waste his life away only to take revenge. However, he wasn’t able to let go of the anger towards others because they were unable to help him.

He soon sold their bakery because of all the memories it held, but he still couldn’t move on entirely. Shinichi went to work at a shrine, and still prays for Mei every day. His life is lonely and secluded, and he continues to become colder towards other people. The shrine is always tidy, but the number of visitors has been decreasing due to his presence.

In his spare time, he has been learning to use katana in anticipation of the day that he may need to fight back against the monster that took the life of Mei.
