In his younger years, his family moved around often. He was much more of an ‘aloof brat’, and never really believed he could trust adults - likewise, he was withdrawn and somewhat 'looked down' on his peers. He was often put in the care -of all people- of his fathers first, ex-wife, Michiko, and his half sister, Mitsuki. They were kind enough to him, but he still felt like a stranger and an imposition. Because he didn't want to cause trouble for his hosts, it was likely due in part to this attitude that he fell seriously ill at the age of twelve and had to be hospitalized. At this time his mother put her foot down and got a job where they could stay settled. His father still continues to travel often, often doing business abroad. While his mother worked an office job with more regular hours for a time, and was home more, she quickly ascended through the ranks that stretched her hours, and sent her on business all across Japan. Ever since that time, he’s had periods of illness believed to be due to a weakened, unstable immune system. These usually seem to be during particularly, and highly stressful times though, which is a big reason he’s always got such a laid-back, carefree attitude towards most things. If he doesn’t take anything too seriously, he can’t stress it too much, right? Throughout mid-late junior high, Soushi began falling into the wrong crowds in and outside of school. While always more cautious, and not outright-malicious , he could nonetheless be classified as a mischievous delinquent. While this remained the case in school, outside, the case grew more severe over the years. The groups he hung out with began to grow steadily more violent, and the crimes of certain members more serious. With nothing at home to help keep his head above water, while Soushi fully saw and understood where his path would lead him, he didn’t care enough to change anything. Ahead of him, he saw the edge, and falling over it meant very little. It wasn’t any desire to do bad, or die - he simply didn’t care. The people he hung out with (despite sometimes paperthin comradery), the fights he got into -physical and otherwise- the things he learned on the streets, it all at least held some interest for him. It gave some small spark that made him feel, vaguely, alive, and yet… it still felt false. Like some makeshift, shitty replacement for what he really needed. As such, he skips around from one group of 'friends' to another rather often and with ease. Come high school, while he hasn't really 'cleaned up his act' so much, he doesn't play the part of a fool. He knows that as long as he keeps his grades up and performs well, he can slide by a bit more easily if he gets in trouble. As it would stand, he's not too dumb at all, and regularly places near the top of his class with aggravatingly effortless ease. It’s hard to say how much he does and does not know about the affairs within the school. He sometimes gives the impression that he has a finger in every pie and an ear to every wall, but he’s so nonchalant and has little real, personal interest in any of it. He’s also a bit of a techie; he knows his way around a computer, and is always fiddling with some gadget or another; his phone, a handheld, listening to his headphones, whatever. This is doubtlessly a result of those times he’s stuck at home recuperating. He’s got an almost frightening collection of books and games, and he’s also picked up strumming on the guitar as a hobby in the past and has become reasonably good at it. He’s not so bad at carrying a tune, either, but he’d never actually ‘perform’ for anyone. That said, it’s not rare to see him with his phone in hand. He’s been known to take some embarrassing pictures of people, which some have guessed to be used for blackmail, but he’s never actually used any as such - to anyone’s knowledge. Were, say, a threat to be aimed at someone he’s grown to care for, however, it’s doubtless he’s got a web of information and resources at his disposal to ruin a persons day. He’s crafty and manipulative, but wields a charisma that earns him some strange fans… Of course, he hardly relies upon this sort of thing. His prodigious skill with a bokken in kendou and general martial experience are nothing to be scoffed at. Laid-back demeanor, jokes and carelessness, and even his sometimes frail state aside, he’s fully able to handle himself in a fight. Bokken or bare-handed, he’s not one to take lightly. [/style]

He's directionless, stubborn, and goes with the flow - for better or worse (and usually worse). He sees himself careening for the edge, but has no desire but to drive carelessly, recklessly forward. Still, he has all the potential to be something greater, to really be made new. Deep down he just needs that push, that reason, to really stand up and be the strong and brilliant person he can be -and is-, ready to snatch life and really make it his own, rather than just being swept up in it all. PERSONA: Okita Souji - The First Captain of the Shinsengumi, he was said to be a man of prodigal skill with the sword, defeating a Kenjutsu teacher at the age of twelve. He was rarely serous, and said to have enjoyed making other people laugh and smile - but became ruthless in a fight. It was said that even when he was diagnosed with tuberculosis, he never lost his smile, and kept his sense of humor until the very end. While deep down, Soushi is perhaps a more embittered person, he almost always keeps an outward presence of joviality and friendliness - even if it is sometimes a pretense for teasing others.
