Confined in the form of a black cat, and stripped of his name, he has since served the successors of the Raidou Kuzunoha name as their guide, unable to die, and continually watching them pass on without him. He is currently the mentor of Raidou Kuzunoha XIV, and helped him solve cases at the Narumi Detective agency, leaving notes for him in his notebook. This inevitably led him to aiding Raidou with particularly dangerous cases like those that led to the events involving the Red Capes and the Soulless God. In order to help Raidou stop the Soulless God, Gouto volunteered to go up into space with a demon and destroyed the satellite that controlled the Hiruko that made up the Soulless God's body. When that occurred, however, Gouto's earthly body was destroyed as well, temporarily rendering him as little more than a disembodied voice, guiding Raidou, whom he believes to be his most promising successor, on as he finished his mission. Gouto later returned to Raidou in Kuzunoha Village, when Raidou returned to undergo some more necessary trials. It was then that they were reassigned to the Capital, which had been falling under a spell of intense varied luck, and determine the cause. Shortly after their return, Gouto noticed a small golden insect sitting near Narumi's shoulder as he prepared to eat lunch. Acting on his suspicions, he pounced at the insect... but not before knocking over Narumi's coffee and sending the buttered toast the detective was planning on eating... butter-side down onto his pants. Talk about bad luck. Or was it? Gouto wasn't sure, but he had a bad feeling, and those feelings rarely proved to be a false alarm. Sure enough, they soon found themselves looking for a young man at the request of a girl. After one shenanigan after another, they eventually found themselves in Tenkogata Village, where they found out not only the identity of the golden luck devouring insect, but it's origin. As it turned out, the insect was a locust that was sealed away in the village due to its dangerous nature, and it was taboo to remove it. The son of the village chief, and the very man they were looking for, had stolen the insect and was using it for some goal. However, they knew for a fact he was somewhere within the capital, so they returned to the city, only to find that it had been rocked by more earthquakes. They regrouped at the agency, preparing to set off to investigate the quakes, and Gouto decided to curl up for a light catnap while Raidou and Narumi got their butts in gear. But, when he opened his eyes, he wasn't in the agency, nor was he anywhere even remotely looking similar to the capital at all! Bewildered, the feline made a few quick notes regarding his predicament in his journal, just so he could keep track of things, and then set off to get a feel for his whereabouts, and see if he was the only one he knew there. He prayed that he wasn't. [/style]

The person that falls under this arcana suffers, but is rewarded with wisdom that he may not have attained otherwise. This applies to Gouto because, had he not been punished for his crime, and cursed with unending life, he would not have seen, or learned the many things he has. Another important factor attributed to The Hanged Man is that time, for the most part remains still, as if in suspension. This also applies to Gouto's curse. He is unable to move, trapped in the form he was given, and unable to either return to who he was, or become someone new. He just remains, as if hanging there, floating in a timeless state, waiting for himself to be cut free. PERSONA: Arachne the weaver Arachne was a talented weaver in Greek myth. Her woven designs were highly prized and she was said to have an ability to rival that of Athena's, which she scoffed at entirely, saying she could best her any day. Athena, outraged by this bold claim, disguised herself and took up the mortal's challenge, only to find herself mortified by the subject that Arachne had decided to weave, as artfully done as it was. As punishment, she touched Arachne's forehead, bestowing the woman with an immense feeling of guilt, which lead her to hang herself out of depression. Athena took pity on her for this, having not expected her to go so far out of remorse, and resurrected Arachne as a spider, so that she, and all her descendants may continue to be elegant weavers. This is relevant to Gouto because they both angered a force far more powerful than they are because of their arrogance, and were punished as a result. Both Gouto and Arachne bear a heavy burden of guilt, and they were both reincarnated as something other than human, as well.
