These revolutions of mood tend not to be based on circumstances, but more on natural biorhythms; she could win the lottery and still suffer a depressive episode. Of course, she takes medicine for this-- the newest "solution" being Lamotrigine. Due to the nature of her syndrome, Lilica has difficulties sticking to any medicine because she fears the side effects will hurt her manic episodes. Her personal side effects of lamotrigine include dizziness, nausea, insomnia, irritability, and appetite changes. Obviously, when she is taking her medicine, she tends not to exhibit classic bipolarity, but these traits instead. However, she may still undergo a manic or depressive state while under medication. Aside from the medical, Lilica is a rather average girl. She acknowledges her petite frame alongside her classically beautiful looks, and she isn't afraid to make use of them. She is proud of her heritage as a Caucasian living in Japan. She identifies well with both the cultures and histories of both Japan and America. She is of slightly above-average intelligence, but she tends not to make much use of it; although she does attempt to study and complete her schoolwork, it is mostly due to parental incentive. As is the nature of her syndrome, Lilica is very natural in many artistic endeavors and could become talented in many areas with effort. Her supreme ability as of now is that of persuasion--her silk tongue can effectively use words she might not even know to make her point. She first learned this tactic in an attempt to get most anything she wants from either of her parents; however, based on morals, she tries not to abuse her powers too often. Lilica is a sincere friend, however. Even if for the wrong reasons, Lilica tries to be as friendly as possible to as many people as possible, unless a particular person gets her uncomfortable or out-of-ease. She is friendly because she is rather openly afraid to be alone. She is in love with society for more than just materialism. Maybe she is just naive, but she does love people and humanity as a race, and she is convinced that life is not to be spent alone. This approach, in the way of relationships and love, however, is very dangerous. Lilica is very easy to commit, in many ways, and she tends to get in over her head easily. She is not moderate in just about any sense of the word--this may be an effect of her bipolarity. HISTORY: Lilica's father, Marcus Pereiera, quickly ascended the business ladder of Americorp (“We Own Everything”). He was sent to direct the Japanese branch (Americorp Japan) a few years before Lilica's birth. In Japan, he met his future wife, Yoko. After a period of near-perfect love, the perfect couple married and had their perfect daughter... Who, unfortunately, was far from perfect, soon enough. Even from an infant's standards, she exhibited extreme mood swings. Noticing this early, her parents named her "Lilica," referencing both the demon Lilith and the beauty of lillies as two sides of the same coin. Living up to this, Lilica's mysterious disorder grew worse over her childhood, until her parents hesitantly took her to therapy, where she was immediately diagnosed with extreme bipolar disorder. The psychiatrist prescribed medicine that would diminish the symptoms, but also create harmful side effects. Lilica has been struggling for the past five years to juggle the side effects of these drugs with her disorder. She tries one drug after the other, but when she achieves some sort of success, she quits the drug, believing herself finally to be over the sickness, until she quickly relapses, worse than ever. Despite this internal trauma, Lilica has maintained a largely active social life. Her abundant friends don't fully know of her disorder, but instead find her to be very passionate and emotional. Now, Lilica is entering her first year as a high school. [/style] |

ARCANA Fortune
Lilica Pereira’s primary personal trait is her bipolarity, over which she has very little control; it’s up to chance, generally. The Fortune Arcana symbolizes that what goes up will go down, which is entirely how Lily’s emotions work on a day-to-day basis. Lily puts herself fully into her relationships; instead of protecting herself, she relies on luck to let her out unscathed. Also, she was born into a very rich household, as her father is an important cog in an international corporation—she was only born into her lifestyle by chance. Like her persona, Lily is unafraid to fly high, but, depending on the circumstances around her and the roll of the dice, anything could happen. If it’s something bad, she does not plan ahead.
PERSONA: Icarus
From wikipedia.org --"[Icarus' father] Daedalus fashioned two pairs of wings out of wax and feathers for himself and his son. Before they took off from the island [Crete], Daedalus warned his son not to fly too close to the sun, nor too close to the sea. Overcome by the giddiness that flying lent him, Icarus soared through the sky curiously, but in the process he came too close to the sun, which melted the wax. Icarus kept flapping his wings but soon realized that he had no feathers left and that he was only flapping his bare arms. And so, Icarus fell into the sea in the area which bears his name, the Icarian Sea near Icaria, an island southwest of Samos."
The Icarus myth in general can be taken as a metaphor for bipolar disorder. Icarus could have flown at a medium height, avoiding the sun and the water, to survive, but he did not. The rush of flying exhilarated him too much, so he flew into the sky, melting the wax on his wings, and he fell to his doom. He took risk and pleasure over security, leaving his life to the hands of fate. Lilica Pereira does this every day. While in a manic, excited state, she cannot control or reason with herself; she simply accepts the pleasure, ignorant of the melancholic state that will come afterward. Unfortunately, if she does not learn from this, she could very well end up as a similar tragic figure.
