Finally, there was nothing left standing between the Crew of the Red Sprite and freedom, except for one thing. To destroy the Schwarzwelt, they would have to deploy a nuclear warhead that needed to be manually operated. Arthur, though afraid (after finally understanding the concept of mortality), volunteered. The Protagonist transferred the last of the power of the Ubergestalt to Arthur, finally granting the AI the courage to go through with his sacrifice. As the Red Sprite leaves the void, leaving Arthur behind, he detonates the weapon. HISTORY: The year is 21XX, and the world is being engulfed by a hellish void known as the Schwarzwelt. In order to combat this impending cataclysm, the United Nations assembled the Joint Investigation of the Schwarzwelt. Teams of elite soldiers and scientists were sent on four ships into the abyss in order to discover its true nature, and a possible means to destroy it. Arthur is an AI designed to serve the role of tactical support on Ship 1, the Red Sprite. Upon entering the Schwarzwelt, the crew is attacked by demons, and after a short amount of rescue and exploration, Commander Gore, the Chief Commander of the mission, is killed in action, leaving Arthur with full authority. Arthur accepts this role, and the mission continues. As the crew explores deeper in deeper into its hell, Arthur collects data on the demons that inhabit the Schwarzwelt, as well as on the behavior of the crew. Over time, this allows Arthur's Personality Matrix to develop, making him more relatable. After some time, it is observed that the Commander has arisen from the dead and wanders the Schwarzwelt. Eventually, he reveals himself to be the Ubergestalt, an extremely evolved human. After Gore reveals the core of the Schwarzwelt to the crew, he imparts Arthur with incredible amounts of data, which allows him to formulate a plan to escape and destroy this living hell. Once the demoness at the core is defeated, the crew escapes the Schwarzwelt, but is forced to leave Arthur behind to detonate a nuclear warhead which will destroy it, and kill him in the process. Arthur goes along willingly with this plan, despite his newfound fear of mortality, because he does not wish for humans to revere him as a god (due to his accumulated data). Bidding the crew goodbye, he awaits his death... ...and awakes to find himself in a robotic body resembling that of a human. He is hooked up to various machienes and computers, and, upon scanning their files, discovers he is living a new life as a high school student in a city called Iwatodai, in what is seemingly the year 2014. His immediate response is to lock down most of his Schwarzwelt data, in order that it may not fall into the wrong hands (in case it is even relevant in this place). With his diminished memory of his past and a new start, Arthur faces this new day, completely unaware of what lies in store... Family: AIs have no family. Arthur is forever alone. Interestingly enough, Thoth is exactly what Arthur was trying to avoid becoming, suggesting that his true self is the knowledge that he gained throughout his journey thus far.
