Personality:
Ms. Miyahara is incredibly enthusiastic, if not a bit scatterbrained. She loves math, but doesn’t seem to know the first thing about it when it gets to be complicated, often getting equations wrong. She makes light of the subject as a whole - whether intentionally or not is unclear - and her main reason for liking math seems to be because numbers are cute. Nevertheless, she is a fun teacher and it’s hard to get on her bad side.

History:
Yaeko Miyahara had a normal and pretty lackluster childhood. She grew up in an average family and went to an average school. Looking back, it’s possible she may have had ADD as a child because if there was one thing she couldn’t seem to do it was focus.
Her hair, which was untamable and puffed out into an afro, was a result of her mother’s African heritage and got her made fun of quite a bit as a child, but she didn’t mind. In fact, she was proud of her hair, a quirky and spunky young girl. But she didn’t fit in with many of the popular kids in her class, so she ended up hanging around with the nerds.
Because most nerds actually are smart, by association she was assumed to be smart, too, although she mostly just floated along through school, getting help from friends and never fully understanding any of the concepts she was taught. She doodled often and for a while wanted to be a cartoonist, but she didn’t feel ambitious enough.
In high school she fell in love with math, partly because she had a crush on her male math teacher and partly because - as she now expresses to her students - the numbers are just so cute! When career planning came at the end of high school she ended up blurting out that she wanted to do something with math, and her path was set.
She somehow - likely through cheating - managed to make her way through college and earn a degree so she could start teaching the subject she was so passionate about. After floating around between a few schools she was finally accepted at Gekkoukan High School. Surprisingly, she hasn’t been fired yet for being a poor teacher. It’s suspected that her students study hard and do well in her class because they either like her or feel sorry for her and don’t want to see her go.
