He normally keeps a pocketwatch on him, and some suspect that underneath his coat, he still wears the SEES armband as a personal reminder of where his loyalties truly lie.

Personality:
At first glance, and probably for a good amount of time afterwards, Shinjiro seems like a rude, unfeeling prick whose only friend is himself. When you get close to him, though…well, he’s still rude, and a prick, but that’s only to Aki. If you’re anyone else, he’s generally quiet and gruff, but you can still tell he’s a pretty good guy underneath it all. Shinji’s more than a little awkward when he attempts to show affection, but it’s cute. He tries not to show it, but he really is a mother hen.

History:
Shinjiro is a street-smart orphan, and an on/off member of SEES. He grew up in the same orphanage with Akihiko and his little sister, Miki, and everything was going fine until Miki was killed in a fire that had burned down the entired orphanage. Sometime during his freshman year at Gekkoukan, Shinjiro awakened to his Persona, and he, Akihiko, and Mitsuru became the three founding members of SEES.
On October 4th, 2007, a rogue shadow escaped from Tartarus, and it was SEES's job to hunt it down and take it out. In a moment of recklessness, Shinjiro attempted to subdue the enemy with his Persona, and failed. He momentarily lost control of Castor, and killed a bystander - Ken Amada's mother. Ever since, Shinjiro had been wracked with guilt, dropping out of SEES and school to live on the streets. He began to take a drug that kept his Persona under control, but at the cost of his health.
Of course, that changed in early September of 2009. Ken had recently joined SEES, and as soon as Akihiko alerted Shinjiro to that fact, he rejoined and began fighting again to watch over Ken as a way of repenting for the murder of his mother. During the month that Shinji was again a member of SEES, he developed a very close, and very unexpected friendship with the new leader, Minako Arisawa.
Near the end of their brief amount of time spent together, Minako returned a pocketwatch to her friend, which would ultimately save his life. During the Dark Hour on October 4th, Ken decided to take his revenge on Shinjiro for killing his mother. However, Takaya, the leader of Strega, beat him to the chase, and shot Shinjiro. The following events are a little hazy, but somehow, the pocketwatch that Minako had returned to him had absorbed the impact of one of the bullets, and he survived the attack.
Unfortunately, Shinji was also rendered comatose for about six months, and woke up just as Minako and the rest of SEES defeated Nyx. As if waking up to one of his best friends practically dying wasn't bad enough, it turns out that the whole 'not attending school for two years' thing prevented him from graduating. Now he has to redo his senior year, and actually attend classes. Oh, boy.
